This issue is The Jill Towaga / Purple Moon Dance Project Issue. Purple Moon is celebrating its 10th anniversary this Sept. Jill Towaga founded Purple Moon in 1992 to realize a creative vision, that of integrating non-western and western dance forms and aesthetics and multi-disciplinary collaboration while consistently exploring the continuum of intimacy between women. The mission of Purple Moon is to develop a greater appreciation and visibility for American cultural diversity especially for Lesbians and Women of Color and to contribute a healing, positive social change and peace in our society through the medium of dance. In the past ten years, Purple Moon has done just that, establishing itself as one of the most innovative dance companies in San Francisco and across the country.
