“I think the strange, the crazed, the queer will have their holiday this year…”
Join us for our Holiday Edition of Gay Play Tuesdays, which will take place on December 19th at 6:30pm, when we will read The Mutilated by Tennessee Williams (1966). Our reading of this short play will be followed by conversation and a festive reception in our Clark Cabaret & Bar!
One of the funniest, strangest, most neglected and most moving of Tennessee Williams’s later plays, The Mutilated takes place on Christmas Eve in New Orleans in the 1930s. Trinket Dugan, a Texas oil heiress and cancer survivor, is hiding away at the Silver Dollar Hotel with a painful secret; and her buxom buddy Celeste Delacroix Griffin, a vagrant, shoplifter, and over-the-hill (though always hopeful) prostitute is Trinket’s only real friend and confidante. However, their complicated friendship is finally pushed to the limit when one of the women publically humiliates the other. Once the battle is on between these two women, will it escalate into all out war? Or will they find a way to resuscitate their friendship just in time for Christmas?
